Thousands and thousands of people are angered by this website. This website, by colleen lynn, offers false statistics and facts. The website also attacks breeds and individuals, such as pit bull owners. "In the 3-year period from 2006 to 2008, pit bull type dogs killed 52 Americans and accounted for 59% of all fatal attacks. Combined, pit bulls and rottweilers accounted for 73% of these deaths". How is that reliable?!?! "There is currently no accurate way to identify the number of dogs of a particular breed, and consequently no measure to determine which breeds are more likely to bite or kill."

If the dog is either short, stocky, short hair, muscular, boxy head, or is aggressive, than it is for sure a pit bull. 1 out of 10 dogs that bites, fall actually under the pit bull category. Their is no proof what so ever that the dog that had just bit, was a pitbull type dog or a rottweiler. I own 1 german shepherd and 2 american pit bull terriers, and my aunt has 1 rottweiler. I have grown up around police dogs, and my aunts rottweilers, and our german shepherds and pit bulls. People are so anal when it comes to my dogs, and they constantly refer todogsbite.org. All of our dogs are well behaved dogs, they do not lash out, growl, bark, attack, bite or eat people nor animals, so why do they have to be constantly treated like they have done, or will do any of the above. Seattle, Washington (April 22, 2009) -- DogsBite.org, a national dog bite victims' group dedicated to reducing serious dog attacks, releases its first multi-year report on U.S. dog bite fatalities. The report covers a 3-year period -- from January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2008 -- and analyzes data gathered from 88 dog bite incidences that caused death to a U.S. citizen.
The report documents dog breed information, property information (where the attack occurred) as well as dog bite victim age information.
Of the 88 fatal dog attacks recorded by DogsBite.org, pit bull type dogs were responsible for 59% (52). This is equivalent to a pit bull killing a U.S. citizen every 21 days during this 3-year period. The data also shows that pit bulls commit the vast majority of off-property attacks that result in death. Only 18% (16) of the attacks occurred off owner property, yet pit bulls were responsible for 81% (13).
Pit bulls are also more likely to kill an adult than a child. In the 3-year period, pit bulls killed more adults (ages 21 and over), 54%, than they did children (ages 11 and younger), 46%. In the 21-54 age group, pit bulls were responsible for 82% (14) of the deaths. The data indicates that pit bulls do not only kill children and senior citizens; they kill men and women in their prime years as well.
The report also shows that of the six victim age groups documented, the 55 and older group suffered the most fatalities 26% (23), followed by the 2-4 age group 22% (19). Between the ages of 0-4, the study reveals that 14% (12) of the fatal attacks involved a "watcher," a person such as a grandparent or babysitter watching the child. Of these attacks, 75% (9) involved a grandparent type.
The founder of DogsBite.org, Colleen Lynn, adds, "The off-property statistical data about pit bulls shows just how dangerous they are." She noted that six senior citizens were killed under these circumstances: "Two were killed while standing in their own backyard," she said. "Four others were killed while taking a morning walk or getting the mail."
References to senior citizen victims include: Jimmie McConnell, 71, Henry Piotrowski, 90, Carshena Benjamin, 71, Luna McDaniel, 83, John Brannaman, 81 and Rosalie Bivins, 65." Now that is false, and rediculous! DO NOT BELIEVE THAT ARTICLE I HAD JUST POSTED! That is one of the articles typed up from coleen, whom hates pit bull type dogs and rottweilers. First off, the name "pit bull" covers 30+ dog breeds, such as the american pit bull terrier, staffordshire bull terrier, american staffordshire terrier, bull dog, american bull dog, bull terrier, mini bull terrier.... "What about the Boxer, Bull Mastiff, Boston terrier or French Bulldog? Do these breeds enter your thoughts when you hear the words “Pit Bull”? Probably not, but for many legislators across the U.S. they do. “Pit Bull-type” is a term often included in BSL leaving many people confused. If a “Pit Bull” is any one of six breeds, than how many breeds are considered to be “Pit Bull-types”? The law may describe characteristics of "Pit Bull-type" dogs as having a "wide head, broad chest, and short fur” (that narrows it down). To further aggravate breed identification issues, most dangerous breed legislation adds "and mixes" to the wording which can get pretty messy. To my knowledge there are at least 25 different bulldog breeds which all fall into the “Pit Bull-Type” category according to its description. Other breeds at risk for BSL may include working-dogs such as the German Shepherd and Labrador Retriever, along with the Saint Bernard, Husky, Chow-Chow, and surprisingly, even the Golden Retriever is banned in some American cities. Let’s not forget that all mixes of these breeds may be banned as well.
After researching breeds commonly characterized with “Pit Bull-type” traits this list of 42 different breeds was created. Sadly, many breeds on this list have already become victims of BSL in different parts of the world including the U.S. Though they all have very different distinguishing characteristics like: weight, size, geographic origin and most importantly, temperament, they are often grouped as one under BSL. Of the 42 breeds listed there are temperaments ranging from 66.7% to the perfect score of 100.0%. The most common kind of BSL completely bans all dogs of a certain breed regardless of temperament unless the owner can prove their dog is not one of the “dangerous” breeds in question. A task that is impossible for many without the help of DNA testing which is not yet possible for all breeds. For most owners who face this issue the road ends here. Without papers, an adopted or rescued dog would be considered a “Pit Bull-type” often resulting in euthanasia. An uncooperative owner would be left with few options; a dog’s life could be spared by sending it away to another city or some may choose to move if able. However, anyone who does not comply with BSL regulations would face costly fines every day the dog remains in the home illegally, eventually leading to jail time. By now you understand that BSL identifies “Pit Bulls” and “Pit Bull-types” based on the breed standard of physical appearance, while ironically disregarding the breed standard for temperament. In reality there is only one true “Pit Bull” and that is The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT). The APBT has a passing rate of 84.3% according to the American Temperament Testing Society’s latest test as of December, 2007. As mentioned, 25 of the 42 breeds listed are descendants of the Bulldog which is also true for the APBT. Surprisingly, over ½ of the breeds listed below scored higher than an 80.0% when tested for temperament. Even more shocking, four of the breeds scored 100.0% which raises questions about the validity of most BSL restriction (what is a pitbull type dog, pg.1)." Now, what does banning breeds solve? Irresponsible ownershipe? No. dog fatalities? Maybe by 1%. Over population in pounds? No, irresponsible people, i.e. thugs etc., will do anything to get a dog breed they want, even if it is breaking the law. I think their should be no laws on dog breeds, but laws regulating who can own certain breeds, and who can own an animal. Maybe their should be a test you have to take for 1 year. 1 year you have to do things in the community proving that you are responsible, and not an abuser..You get pulled over? No dog. You get arrested? Certaintaly no dog. If anything bad were to happen to you in that 1 year period, than no dog until you can prove that you are responsible enough too own one. If they want a head strong dog, than they should not only practice and show responsibility, but they should make out a game plan saying, Okay the dog will have to sit here, not dash out the door, walk good on a leash, not challenge me, not dominate me, and not bully or push me around. Just because a breed of dog bites, or over populates, doesn't mean put them all to sleep and ban the breed. Say someone had 32 kids, and the parents died... The 32 kids had to go to an orphange, and some kids have mental problems, and anger problems..what do we do? Put them all to sleep? Keep them locked up? No, try to get them better. Would the government ban parents for breeding, or owning children that could one day end up a thug, a murderer, a rapest etc.? No, they just say "raise it right and it will act right!". Than why cant it be the same with animals?! If an african american person shot somebody, it is not right to go around be skeptical of every african americans just because one shot somebody. If a caucasion person rapes someone, is it accetable to go around being afraid of caucasions? No, the answer is NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. If racism and genocide is illegal, than why are we still doing it? Not nesecarilly to people, but to dog breeds. This needs to end, if it isent judging someone for body weight, color, sexual orientation or anything, its judging an animal for the breed it is. BLAME THE OWNER, NOT THE ANIMAL.
